St. Paul Whiskey Fest

Scotch, bourbon, corn, and rye are just four varieties of whiskey, the beloved hard liquor consumed by high rolling businessmen, alcoholic rock stars, toothless guys living in shacks in the woods, and Minnesotans looking to warm themselves during the colder months. Traditionally distilled from fermented grain mash and aged in oak casks, whiskey is offered throughout the world in styles that are as varied as its consumers. This Saturday, bar hoppers who love the golden beverage can taste samples of over 300 whiskeys at the Happy Gnome. There will also be talks led by brand managers and distillers throughout the day, as well as classes for both novices and experts. Though there will be plenty of booze and new things to discover, this is a no-frills festival. Once the bagpipe sounds at noon, the event will be strictly whiskey. No rum, no vodka, no beer. There will also be no bands. Ten dollars gets you in, drink tickets get you as many samples as your heart (and head) desire. For more info call or visit www.stpaulwhiskyfest.com.
