Othello

The gods of theater are capricious, and not without a certain sense of humor. For roughly four weeks starting next month, an inordinate amount of Twin Cities acting talent is going to be laboring on Shakespeare's story of jealousy and betrayal. And they're going to be doing it on two different stages. Ten Thousand Things will feature Ansa Akyea in the title role, abetted by hotshots including Luverne Seifert, Tracey Maloney, and Christiana Clark. Park Square's Othello features a cast of 20, led by James A. Williams and Stacia Rice. There's little risk of overlap, what with TTT's gritty and visceral ethic and PST's more conventional but no less intriguing potential. Here's the thing: The performers involved in these shows are very, very, very good. Odds are seeing both of them would be an enriching wager. (Photo by studentofrhythm)
