David Sedaris

Of the many things one might expect to see on someone's bio, "award-winning humorist" is probably not one of them. Yet David Sedaris's résumé is loaded with examples of how he is the funniest of them all. Those awards include the Thurber Prize for American Humor, and Time magazine's "Humorist of the Year" award. While some fans refer to him as a literary rock star, it seems more appropriate to call him a renaissance funnyman. Creatively, he has taken on a wide variety of endeavors. His books, including Me Talk Pretty One Day, Naked, and Holidays on Ice, have all been bestsellers. His essays frequently appear in The New Yorker. And then there are his hilarious segments on NPR's This American Life. In between these bursts of impressive productivity on major projects, he has also released several Grammy-nominated CDs and has co-written six plays with his sister Amy. Tonight at the State Theatre, listen to him talk pretty about his prolific career. (Photo by Hugh Hamrick)
