Breast in Show: A Benefit for Breast Cancer

The month of October is more than simply a lead-up to Halloween and fall harvest events, it's also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In order to raise funds for treatment and prevention, Gallery 122 will be hosting a benefit and gallery show. The main concept is undeniably fun: Local volunteers were invited to have casts of their busts created using plaster. The molds were then sent out to a handful of artists, who turned them into artistic statements reminiscent of corsets. In Sugar and Spice...and Everything Nice, you can almost imagine one of Adam Turman's pinup girls wearing his lollipop, cupcake, and ice cream creation. Jessica Helvey's It's All Lovely is more sculptural, with birds landing on a bust decorated with text and goldfish. Jennifer Davis's well-placed cat heads on her piece should make guests smile as well. You can check out the many colorful, playful, and beautiful busts and bid on your favorite pieces at this Friday's party, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. (or bid on the unsold artwork after the opening). Proceeds benefit the Keep-a-Breast organization and the Breast Cancer Awareness Association of Minnesota. (Pictured: Work by Jennifer Davis)
