Taste of Lake Street

Few metro thoroughfares are as diverse in cuisine as Lake Street, home to both the chichi eateries of Uptown and the butcher shops, bakeries, and tortillerias of Mercado Central. That diversity is most concentrated at the Midtown Global Market, perhaps the area's highest representation of countries per square foot, making it the obvious setting for the Taste of Lake Street. Now in its second year, the benefit will bring together food, dessert, and drink samples from 40 Lake Street-area restaurants, with proceeds benefitting local hunger-relief organizations. Among the samples on hand: Amore Victoria's tortellini alla panna, Holy Land gyros and hummus, green papaya salad from Chiang Mai Thai, Namaste Café's masala chicken curry, Sea Port Market ceviche, and fish tinga tostadas from the Global Market's own La Sirena Gorda. A food drive, silent auction and a raffle—with prizes including 12 months of citywide fine dining—will also support Minneapolis food shelves. For more info visit www.tasteoflakestreet.org.
