Choreographer Deborah Jinza Thayer has created a modern dance response to the ongoing exhibit of recent works by Douglas Padilla. In particular, Thayer is drawn to Padilla's "La Mode" series, a smash-up of mysticism and fashion that truly suits the dance maker's always-innovative sense of how to respond to the unexpected odd coupling. The two artists also used this partnership opportunity to address what it takes to maintain a creative life over the passage of time, so Thayer has developed a series of dances that serve almost as rites of passage; responding to not only their current shared experiences but also to whatever the future may hold. Go experience Padilla's vibrant and playful work in combination with Thayer's equally fun-loving shout-out, which includes performances by a fierce group of dancers: Rachel Barnes, Christine Maginnis, Debra McGee, Sharon Picasso, Rosy Simas, and Stephanie Karr-Smith. Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 18. Continues through Sept. 27, 2009
