Pine Wood Derby Art Car Show

The premise of this show is simple: Each participating artist was issued a pine wood car-making kit, the kind that thousands of Cub Scouts use each year to put together a car and earn a badge. However, the resulting show will not involve your standard-issue pieces. Artists will customize their vehicles using paint, glitter, glue, and any other thing that springs to mind. Participants include children's book artist J. Otto Siebold, dark yet childlike print artist Jenny Schmid, comic creator King Mini, and many others. Don't be deceived by their colorful designs and sparkly additions—these wheels are also designed to roll. The opening reception is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, September 19, and toward the end of the night the cars will race each other in a climactic finish. The pieces will be on display until October 15 (but call ahead to ensure the gallery is open).
