My Name is Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie died in 2003 in the Gaza strip, an idealistic college student and activist crushed by a bulldozer while protesting the destruction of Palestinian homes (whether her demise was an accident depends on who you're asking). My Name Is Rachel Corrie is based on her diaries and emails, and paints a correspondingly one-sided portrait of her youthful passion and messy idealism. This Emigrant Theater staging, directed by Jessica Finney, features powerhouse Emily Gunyou Halaas in the title role. Halaas has a mercurial, magnetic way on the stage, frequently managing the nifty trick of projecting both youthfulness and soul (call it the wisdom of the young—we learn some things with age, but we forget some as well). It's the story of one young woman, told intimately, who plunged herself into one of the nastiest zones in human history. For tickets and more info, call 612.423.2741.
