Concrete and Grass Lowertown Music Festival

Those who have visited know that there is less concrete and more grass than one would expect at the urban Mears Park. Located in Lowertown St. Paul by the Bulldog, the park is well lit at night, has a cute little stream running through it, and contains plenty of comfy grass to sit on in front of its large iron stage. And that is exactly what we recommend you do at the Concrete and Grass festival. The list of performers each day is epic, and loaded with local musicians of just about every genre. There will be two music stages, one featuring only acoustic sets. Highlights include rapper Freddy Fresh, blues artist Papa John Kolstad, and the Minnesota Opera on Friday; folk artists Romantica, spoken-word artist Desdamona, and rocker Kid Dakota on Saturday; and hip-hop artists Heiruspecs, Ginger Commodore doing gospel, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra on Sunday, to name only a few. Fri., Sept. 11, 3:30-10 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 12-10 p.m. Starts: Sept. 11. Continues through Sept. 13, 2009
