8@8

Are you interested in the Twin Cities dance scene but unsure about where to start? Do you enjoy buffets because you can sample many different types of food in one meal? Well, 8@8 is a little bit like that, and at an all-you-can-eat price. Originally involving eight dance companies, the program has been expanded to nine groups, each performing samples of some of their greatest works. The list includes Ballet of the Dolls (ballet with a bit of punk-rock slant), Ethnic Dance Theatre, Flying Foot Forum (percussive dance), Jawaahir Dance Company (traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern Dance), Katha Dance Theatre (dramatic, Indian Dance), Shapiro & Smith Dance and TU Dance (both contemporary, running the gamut from whimsical to theatrically intense), Zenon Dance Company (modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet), and Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre. If one group doesn't suit your taste, you'll find yourself enjoying another flavor shortly.
Sept. 10-11, 8 p.m., 2009
