Motörhead

Years before hardcore kids and heshers drew battle lines and fought each other in mid-American high schools, Motörhead was gigging with the Damned and carrying on the fast-and-loud tradition of the Ramones in a way that most of their UK contemporaries in the punk scene couldn't quite replicate. That's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the nearly universal appeal of the legendary hard rock band, still touring and recording well into bassist/frontman Lemmy Kilmister's sixties. Motörhead pioneered what later became thrash metal, but they still sound just as hellbent and raucous when playing at half-speed. They've got bass solos that make other bands' lead guitar solos sound impotent. And while Lemmy prefers to classify what his band does as straight-up rock and roll, it's clear that Motörhead has a permanent wing in metal Valhalla.
