Jon Snodgrass

Between his early days with pioneering country-punks/Lagwagon running buddies Armchair Martians and his more recent work in their successors Drag the River, Fort Collins, Colorado native Jon Snodgrass has helmed two of the most respected alt-country bands to ever disband. (OK, we might have to hold off on giving that designation to Drag the River just yet, at least if the title of their recent odds-and-sods collection, Bad at Breaking Up, is any indication.) But going solo hasn't slowed him down in the least -- he's been diligently touring nearly all year, not so much behind his June-released solo album as around it. The album in question, Visitor's Band, takes the dry-throated twang and honky-tonk bitterness that fueled Drag the River and strips it down even further to a haunting meditation on loneliness and restlessness, sparsely but vividly punctuated by moments of hard-charging punk influence that reveal the Hüsker Dü fandom beneath. With Austin Lucas, Two Cow Garage. 18+
