If you want to go to an art fair this summer, this would be the weekend to do so. The Uptown Art Festival is by far the largest; it ranks second to the State Fair in statewide attendance. Of course Uptown will be loaded with hundreds of art vendors selling their wares, but there will be other things to do as well. The Suburban World Theatre will host an air-conditioned, indoor wine garden, for example. Or check out the food court behind the Walker Library and help out with the community mural being painted during the weekend. Or enjoy the nonstop live performances over at Old Chicago. The Uptown Art Fair hours are Friday from noon to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those looking to avoid the hell that is weekend traffic should fear not: Metro Transit will be offering free rides to the three art fairs Saturday and Sunday.
