There's little doubt that local slam poets enjoy wallowing in impropriety. Take, for example, Sam Cook's precisely crafted paean to an underage, illegal- immigrant stripper, or Michael Schaffer's tale of date rape, featuring Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear as main players. The Erotic Slam provides the perfect opportunity for the most filthy-minded local poets to let their inner pervert play. But not all the sexy poetry tonight will be performed for laughs. Some of the better-crafted "serious" pieces have the power to leave the listener, in the words of Gamble Rogers, fraught with horn; the bad ones provide their own awkward entertainment as metaphors strain and struggle to describe the color of a lover's nipples or the ineffable anguish of orgasm. If your idea of kink is chocolate sauce and fuzzy handcuffs, you might find the scene a little over-the-top. But come anyway, and bring a date. Maybe you'll both leave with some new ideas. 18+.
