If shopping with children is hellish, shopping with pets may be even worse. However, an afternoon strolling the street in an event geared toward pups and their owners can potentially be a fun time. This is the premise behind Paws on Grand, a daylong event on Grand Avenue where attendees both human and canine can enjoy special activities, treats, and other animal-friendly happenings. Cheer on the pet parade at 3 p.m. (at 1140 Grand Avenue), have an artist draw your beloved Scrappy over at Wet Paint Inc., enter your pooch in the talent contest, or chat up the Animal Humane Society about services offered around town or how to handle pesky pet behavior. Not all stores will be participating (somehow I doubt that Pottery Barn would be down with your golden retriever trying out the furniture), so check online at www.grandave.com to see what participating stores have planned. Many will be donating proceeds to the Animal Humane Society. (photo by jmcmichael)
