Mississippi River Challenge

In the first half of the 19th century, when Fort Snelling was built yet still being expanded, the area around it was composed of largely untouched forest, the Mississippi flowing with pristine water. Fast-forward a couple hundred years, and the fort is next to a major international airport, and surrounded by highways. The river and the neighboring land are in okay shape, but in need of preservation. So as part of the Mississippi River Challenge, a two-day paddle event organized by the Friends of the Mississippi River, canoeists will paddle the river during the day and camp out under the stars at Fort Snelling at night. A replenishing dinner will be served (with vegetarian and vegan options available), with root beer and brews from Summit, live music, and historical re-enactors providing entertainment.
