Lumberjack Days

Anyway you cut it, Stillwater's Lumberjack Days is the most unusual summer festival in the Twin Cities area. First, there is a floating stage, which is cool. Second, there's a race. Not some pleasant 5K jog through a neighborhood, but serious, competitive 10-mile and 5K races through nature along the St. Croix River. Finally, where else are you going to see lumberjack and lumberjill competitions this summer? Answer: nowhere else close to here. Other activities worth checking out during the festival include the Stilh Dogs and Logs World Championships, pitting canine against canine in big air, extreme vertical, and speed retrieve contests; a treasure hunt; and, if you're into the less active forms of entertainment, a cribbage tournament. Musical acts performing on the floating stage include Creedence Clearwater Revisited on Thursday and the Wallflowers on Saturday. Thunder in the Valley, a huge fireworks show with accompanying music, will be at Lowell Park Sunday at 10 p.m. For more info visit www.lumberjackdays.com.
