Emo Philips

Emo Philips loves the Twin Cities, but he doesn't care much for the Mall of America. "I think everyone goes to the Mall of America eventually," he says, "if they die without Christ." He prefers the area's unique stores like the Electric Fetus. "I've been going there since it was the Steam-Powered Fetus." He's also fond of another local establishment. "My favorite athletic store is Midwest Mountaineering. Come for the oxymoron, stay for the values." But Emo does more than shop when he's in town. "I like to play chess with old men in the park," he states. "The hardest part is finding 32 of them willing to stand still." A follower of current events, he is excited that Al Franken will finally be headed to Washington as the state's second senator. "This will now give President Obama a majority among Democratic senators." Philips continues to tour and make the occasional TV appearance, and after 25 years he remains one of standup's most original voices. 18+. (photo by Ramona Rosales)
