If you own a purple suit and frilly white shirt that you've been itching to wear in public, or you're attempting a one-man Jheri curl revival, then Friday night is your time to shine. That's when First Avenue, the club that is synonymous with Minneapolis's '80s music heyday, is paying homage to Purple Rain, the 1984 film starring Prince that made him an international sensation, and turned First Ave into First Ave. Everybody's favorite cable-access late-night show host, Ian Rans of Drinking with Ian fame, will kick the evening off with a Purple Rain costume contest for anybody dying to dress up like the Purple One or Apollonia. Next, everybody gets to "go crazy" with a screening of the film, including a sing-along to each of the musical numbers that made the flick's soundtrack an instant classic, selling an astounding 13 million or so copies. For those who don't have all the lyrics memorized ("Let's look 4 the purple banana 'til they put us in the truck," for instance), lyric sheets will be available. 18+.
