Stone Arch Festival of the Arts

You can’t exactly skip Stone Arch Festival of the Arts and then purport to be a fan of local music (or local anything, really). Stone Arch is a showcase for artists and performers of all kinds, but the big draw is the music, which is on four stages this year. The lineup features some acts you’re probably familiar with, such as Dan Israel and the Wars of 1812, and others you definitely should know about, including John Swardson and Peter Lochner. If none of those interest you, there are plenty more to choose from, with the music continuing all day. Like the weather in our fair state, if something doesn’t strike your fancy, just wait 15 minutes and something different will come along. The event’s location on the bank of the Mississippi near the Stone Arch Bridge possesses one of the more striking views of Minneapolis, and is the perfect (and possibly only) place for such a festival to work as well as it does. It’s family-friendly while not alienating the hipster contingent, and ends early so as not to interfere with any evening engagements you may have planned.
June 20-21, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2009
