Some games are great to play while drinking: darts, billiards, foosball, and tabletop shuffleboard, to name a few. They offer a little competition, require only a bit of talent, and being victorious at them makes you a total hottie to potential suitors. Some games do not lend themselves to consumption of alcohol: motor racing, competitive pogo-sticking, downhill skiing. Lawn bowling on the 10,000-square-foot English garden at Brit's Pub is a perfect fit for the former category, and it's outdoors to boot. The rules are pretty simple: Teams alternate rolling balls toward a target ball (the "jack," if you want to be technical about it), and the team that gets a ball closest to it earns a point. The team with the most points wins. It's that simple. And even after you've tipped a few (or nine) pints of Guinness, your ability to roll a ball probably won't be greatly affected. And it's a modestly priced form of entertainment to enjoy on an early summer evening, whether you play your friends, or go head-to-head against a rowdy group of strangers you've just met.
Saturdays, Sundays, 12-11 p.m. Starts: May 30. Continues through Sept. 27, 2009
