Although it has been a while since the Twin Cities produced a Prince- or Soul Asylum-level musical superstar, local concert-poster artists have been hitting the big time with clubs and bands all over the country. Now, eight of those artists (the same ones behind the popular annual Poster Offensive sale each year) have been included in the book Gig Posters Volume 1: Rock Show Art of the 21st Century (Quirk Books). The tome highlights the best of their work, as well as tons of band art from across the country. The 11-by-14 inch book features posters by DWITT, Burlesque of North America, and Adam Turman, among many others, and includes 101 perforated posters that tear out to hang on your wall, turning your home into a veritable gallery of gig posters for venues including First Avenue and the Triple Rock, and bands such as the White Stripes, Radiohead, the Decemberists, and Modest Mouse. To celebrate the local artists' inclusion, Magers & Quinn is hosting a poster sale that offers music and art fans a chance to purchase their work.
