Remember all that controversy a few weeks back about the Miss California organization paying for Carrie Prejean's breast implants? It was a truly shocking development in Preajean's pageant-rule-breaking, topless-photo-posing, gay-marriage-bashing, and Donald Trump-laden public meltdown, which has thrust beauty pageants into the public eye once again. This weekend's Mrs. Minnesota/Mrs. Iowa/Mrs. Wisconsin pageant has taken a different tack altogether: Discount breast implants are part of the prize package. Yes, in addition to getting free Botox, teeth-whitening gift certificates, and, strangely, a will consultation with a lawyer, the big winner will receive two grand off the price of breast augmentation from a Des Moines plastic surgeon. Major surgery aside, women from the three states will be vying for pride and trips. The winners of the three pageants go on to the Mrs. America pageant, held this year in Tucson, and if they triumph there, they then go all the way to the Mrs. World pageant in Vung Tau, Vietnam. There is so much at stake, the drama at the Fitzgerald Theater will be palpable.
