Red Hot Art Festival

Don't spend much time in Stevens Square Park? You should get there for at least one afternoon this summer. With its spectacular, brochure-worthy view of downtown Minneapolis, the park makes a perfect location for a summertime get-together. This year's Red Hot Art Festival promises to be bigger than before, with over 100 artists exhibiting and selling their photography, paintings, pottery, jewelry, poster art, and more. Want to be part of the art? Be sure to check out the Art Battles, where Matt Semke and William Hessian will duel throughout the day using canvas and paintbrushes. Every 20 minutes they will select someone from the crowd to sit and be painted. Audiences will then vote on their favorite representation, followed by the destruction of the loser's work. Ouch. If competitive art sounds too brutal, check out some of the hands-on workshops and take-home activities hosted by MCAD, Kulture Klub, and Elpis Enterprises. Food vendors and two stages of music, including Prozac Rat, the Knotwells, A Paper Cup Band, Ben Glaros, Cadillac Kolstad, and others, help make this festival even hotter.
