Last season probably wasn't what the Lynx had hoped for: They finished tied for last place in the Western Conference. Bummer. But finishing so low in the standings comes with the perennial silver lining of a high draft pick. And with the fourth pick, the Lynx got incredibly lucky when University of Connecticut guard Renee Montgomery—who was widely expected to be the first overall pick—fell into the their lap. Montgomery helped guide the Huskies to a mind-boggling 39-0 during their 2008-09 season, which was capped by winning the National Championship. Now that the Lynx have added Montgomery to a team that already includes star forward Seimone Augustus (who was fourth last year in points per game), and last year's rookie sensation (and winner of the 6th Woman Award) Candice Wiggins, 2009 likely will be the first year in the club's march out of the West's cellar.
