RetroRama

If you thought retro chic was some strange 2006 fashion fetish to experiment with at will and later deny like mall bangs and parachute pants, you stand corrected. Arguably, the only significant post-'70s addition to fashion has been the incorporation of spandex into denim, so retro is likely to survive trend-itis well into the next decade and beyond. The Minnesota History Center is pressing its advantage with the return of the successful RetroRama event, a one-night renaissance of 20th-century design and pop culture. Minnesota History Center guests can shop at a vintage boutique courtesy of Via's Vintage and Swank Retro, or prove their knowledge of swing-era trivia with Chuck and Sean of Trivia Mafia. Next, sample classic recipes from Chowgirls catering paired with grandma and grandpa's favorite cocktails mixed by bartenders from the Bradstreet Craftshouse Restaurant. Once you're fully incorporated into the commie-fearing fold, watch the vintage-inspired runway show, Fashion Comes Full Circle, and afterward dance the night away with local indie-rock-country-blues band A Night in the Box.
