Did you know that ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand? Or that zebra stripes are unique like human fingerprints? How about that giraffes are the insomniacs of the savannah, needing only about 20 minutes of deep sleep a night? These are just a few of the fun facts visitors can learn at Africa! at the zoo this summer. Gemsbok, wildebeests, and other creatures from the savannah will return, roaming a six-acre exhibit. This weekend, Saturday through Monday, will mark the opening with a celebration. Guests can ask questions and talk to animal keepers, check out performances by Tiyumba African drummers and dancers, watch stilt walkers, and enjoy children's activities, including face painting.
