Switchbladecomb.com Record Party

"No Eagles. No Phil Collins. No Bummers." That's the motto of the dance night put on every Monday at the Uptown Bar by the folks at indie-centric pop culture blog Switchblade Comb, and to be honest it's not an especially descriptive one. Everybody who considers themselves a music geek tries to boost their cool cred by picking on AOR dad-rock fogies like those guys, though there's something to be said for bummers every once in a while (holler at a Leonard Cohen one time). On the other hand, it's good that Switchblade Comb get the whole matter of what doesn't get played at the Record Party out of the way, because going over what does get played is a lot more exhaustive and time-consuming. Five hours from 9 to close is a lot of time to fill, so the DJs of Switchblade Comb and a rotation of guests on the ones and twos spread the wealth genre-wise between an all-vinyl selection of punk, funk, blues, Britpop and anything else they can get their hands on. Suffice it to say that if you've got one of those "eclectic" friends that likes "everything but country and rap," they've got less of a scope than these guys. Just kindly refrain from requesting "Sussudio," and a good time is guaranteed.
