Chris Larson: Deep North

Despite the fact that they were inspired by gunshots, the works of Chris Larson project a peaceful stillness. In "Deep North," Larson conveys this calmness in a variety of mediums. His photography captures winter wonderlands within small homes, which are actually dubbed "shotgun houses." The ice-covered small spaces appear frozen in time: a frozen waterfall forms on a toilet paper roll, a red plate peeks out under a serving of ice, and a TV protrudes from a white avalanche. An eight-minute film demonstrates how these bizarrely sunny, picturesque images were created. Wood sculptures painted white are birthed from casts of actual gunshot blasts. Drawings and other pieces round out the show. You may find yourself thankful that summer is around the corner upon viewing.
