Salon Saloon

There's a reason there is an entire genre dedicated to the road trip. Be it the fish-out-of-water factor, the potential for strange adventures, or the natural narrative arc that wandering guarantees, artists have drawn inspiration from traveling since the dawn of storytelling. Local art critic and curator Andy Sturdevant will host Salon Saloon, mixing a talk-show format with a variety of performances. Painter Carolyn Swiszcz will discuss her travels to Miami, Fargo, and her true love, West St. Paul. Violinist Hilary Davis will report on her adventures at this year's SXSW. Punk poet Paul Dickinson will reminisce about traveling throughout America in the back of a van. Rounding out the guests will be actress-comedian Courtney McLean, who will recount tales from the Fringe Festival circuit. Beer specials and the Old Man Orville Band will add even more to your night. Got a story to tell? Pictures to show? Favorite road song? Send them over to salon.saloon@gmail.com before the show.
