Music and dance may be sister arts, but rarely do choreographers have a background as musical as James Sewell's, or composers a sense of movement like Mary Ellen Childs's. The two team up with a new work for the male vocal ensemble, Cantus. Their interactive adventure includes musical and vocal improvisations, and it's a good bet that the Sewell dancers will be making sounds while the Cantus singers incorporate movement into their vocals. Also on the program is "Appalachia Waltz," based on simple American folk themes, and Sewell's animated solo portraits of his splendid dancers. Want to just sample Sewell's work or introduce a squirrely kid to La Danse? "First Chance Dance" offers about an hour of highlights for only 10 bucks; children three and under admitted free.
