Though many tattoo artists are self-taught, the talented ones are always aware of history—not just the history of tattoo styles, but the history of art. When the needle leaves the surface, a good tattoo artist continues his studies with independent art projects. At this upcoming show at Gallery 122, artists past and present from Uptown Tattoo will exhibit the work they have done when not creating art on skin. Participating artists include Brandon Holt, Zack Kinsey, Dan Kytola, Nic Skrade, Tom Strom, and Jon Sweet. Though they work across several mediums, this show's emphasis will be on paintings; subjects range from nuns, to zombies, to skeletons.
