Sippin' at the Ritz

As everyone knows, times are tough. The number of food-shelf clients is rising. The face of hunger is hardly limited to any one stereotype; hunger strikes children in schools, families with full-time jobs, and individuals working hard to make ends meet. This Thursday you can help fight hunger at Sippin' at the Ritz, a benefit for Second Harvest Heartland, an impressively efficient program; 96 percent of its revenues are applied directly to hunger programs. In 2007 alone the organization distributed 34.5 million pounds of food. Those in attendance at Sippin' at the Ritz can enjoy food while fighting hunger. Arden Hills wine wholesalers Cat and Fiddle Beverage will talk about wine, with samplings in the unique Ritz Theater space. Also on hand will be local chefs preparing appetizers to pair with wine; chefs slated to dish include JD Fratzke (the Strip Club Meat and Fish), Hector Ruiz (El Meson, Cafe Ena), Jim Grell (the Modern Cafe), Stuart Woodman (Heidi's), and John Hunt (Al Vento). Proceeds benefit Second Harvest Heartland. Canned food donations accepted. 21+.
