With great art venues dying all around us, we should take any opportunity we have to help maintain these vital purveyors of creativity. The Southern Theater is giving us that chance with Southern Exposure 2009. The theater's fifth annual benefit will feature performances by beloved Twin Cities artists, including Leslie Ball, the host of the Southern's weekly open mic night, Balls. There will also be plenty of fine edibles to nosh on and an auctioning off of wine, original art, and classes. Do you really want to imagine Minneapolis without the Southern? If the $125 ticket price is a little more support than you can afford, stop by the theater at 10 p.m. for the afterparty featuring DJ music, dancing, pizza, and a much more wallet-friendly $10 entrance fee.
