That band thinks they're the queen of the neighborhood -- I got news for you: they are. This esteemed publication has given Baby Guts plenty of accolades over the last few years, including a top ten finish in 2007's Picked to Click and the bestowment of Best Female Vocalist, awarded to scream-virtuoso lead singer Laura Larson, in 2008's Best of the Twin Cities. And venerated UK publication The Guardian, eager to catch a band on the upswing, highlighted them in their up-and-comers "First sight" column. It's good to know there's still some well-deserved attention given to next-wave riot grrl groups in an increasingly bro-centric underground rock world, and Baby Guts' abrasive, powerful three-piece-delivered blasts of '90s-vintage (but hardly obsolete) feminist punk rock fits that ideal perfectly. If you're still inexplicably skeptical in the face of all the press, this free gig at the Hexagon, sharing a bill with First Communion Afterparty, G-Biz and St. Pauli GRLA, should allay your concerns without impacting your wallet. Your eardrums might need a little protection, though.
