Comedian Gabriel Iglesias likes to think that his appearance on the 2006 edition of Last Comic Standing made TV history. "I was the first Mexican ever deported off of television," he laughs. He broke a show rule, it seems, by being caught with a forbidden personal item. He explains, "I snuck in a cell phone to keep in touch with my girlfriend, who I'm still with, by the way, so I guess I chose wisely. The show's over, but I'm still with the girl." Life is good for Iglesias, but it wasn't always so. Since he usually seems to be having such a good time on stage, audiences probably don't realize the serious issues he has dealt with in his past. After performing in a talent show at the age of 10, Iglesias didn't really pursue his dream until some friends coaxed him into trying an open mic. "I was going through a really bad depression," he explains, "so it was kind like a motivator. I still have a lot of issues, a lot things that motivate me; there was a lot of pain." Making people laugh helped. "It's like therapy. You go up there and you vent."
