The list of awards that Spring Awakening grabbed in 2007 is stunning, spanning from the Tony (Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score), to the Grammy (Best Musical Show Album). It was a Broadway phenomenon, a steamy tale of adolescent love and lust set amid the repressive backdrop of late 19th-century Germany. It's certainly no small theme, the activation of all those hormones and adorations that fuel major aspects of how the rest of our lives play out, and there's no doubt that this story of emerging into passionate adulthood struck a chord with audiences. Getting in touch with one's inner teenager, as life's journey progresses, isn't such a bad thing at all.
