The New York collective National Theater of the United States of America joins forces with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, the Brass Messengers, choreographer Karen Sherman, and Walker archivist Jill Vuchetich to re-imagine the Chautauqua Circuit (and kick off the Walker's Out There 2009 series). In an era spanning 1874 to 1935, the circuit was a big-top amalgam of circus, vaudeville, dance, music, and traveling lectures. This show promises to evoke bygone days when barriers between artistic disciplines were more fluid and less codified; in the bargain, National Theater and its accomplices promise to explore the always fuzzy borders between what is considered high and low culture. Preview materials mention that the show contains nudity.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 8. Continues through Jan. 10, 2009
