Local comic made good Chad Daniels returns to Acme for a two-night-only showcase that promises to be one of the year's most entertaining shows. Daniels will forego his usual act (he'll return to do a regular set in February) and instead share hilarious and harrowing stories of life on the road as a comic. Daniels will host, rather than headline, a bill rounded out by four of Minneapolis's hottest comics. Reliably on-target Acme stalwarts Ben San Del and Tommy Ryman will appear, and two new performers, Andy Erikson and Cy Amundson, will be introduced into the club's incredibly deep talent roster. Erikson's instantly likeable stage persona is a delightful hybrid of Mitch Hedberg, Sarah Silverman, and Maria Bamford. Erikson's airy intonation and is-she-stoned? giggle set up the audience for a sucker punch when the gags turn on her sharp wit and wordplay. ("I grew up in a theme park," she quips, grinning. "Unfortunately, the theme of that park was trailer.") Amundson's frat-boy looks and high-energy delivery belie surprisingly surreal material. Dig that bit about his 10-step seminar on how to succeed in business; it very well might win a Best Joke of the Year Award. This showcase is a perfect demonstration of the Twin Cities comedy scene's incredible vitality and diversity—and it's just the tip of the iceberg. 18+. $15. 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. 708 First St. N., Minneapolis; 612.338.6393.
Fri., Dec. 26, 8 & 10:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 27, 8 & 10:30 p.m., 2008
