Corey Stevens

Often compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Illinois native Corey Stevens can play the Texas guitar slinger to the hilt, but actually is quite a bit more eclectic. Pop, country, rock, and lyrical hooks are laced through his covers and originals, carried by his nicely textured voice until breaking out into flowing guitar forays. You can almost hear Eric Clapton covering Stevens's "Blue Drops of Rain," or maybe Gregg Allman singing and applying his billowing keys to "The Brothers." Both are on Stevens's new double CD, Myth Live, recorded before an enthusiastic congregation in February 2007 at the titular club in Maplewood. It's a particularly tasty set, not so much a blistering blast of adrenalin as an adeptly nuanced journey through the ebb and flow of the blues. All ages. (photo by Eryk Cianciarulo)
