Tellabration! 2008

There is no bigger or better storytelling event in the Twin Cities than Northstar Storytelling League's Tellabration! 2008. Hijacking Open Book for a full 12 hours, tellers of myriad styles and backgrounds gather to share their art in story circles and concerts. If you're new to the oldest form of entertainment and want to try your hand, pop into the Storytelling 101 morning workshop to learn the basics. The afternoon offers a Liar's Contest (all fibbers encouraged to enter), and a concert of exurban tellers, as well as a performance by longtime local teller Tom Cassidy in which he promises to challenge the audience's definition of story itself. Other performances will highlight stories for kids, Asian Pacific tales, a spoken-word version of The Neverending Story, and music-aided telling. If you don't have the free time to make a day of it, be sure to show up for the evening concert, showcasing some of the cities' brightest talents, including deliciously geeky Fringe mainstay Curt Lund and Hmong poet and storyteller Mai Neng Moua. $10-$12. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 1011 Washington Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612.215.2575.
Sat., Nov. 29, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 2008
