Junk Bonanza

They say that one man's trash is another man's treasure; anyone who has rummaged through the chaos of Ax-Man Surplus Store in St. Paul knows this to be true. This weekend features an epic junk sale just a short ride outside the Twin Cities. But don't drive out there expecting new junk; there will be nary a Beanie Baby or plastic toy from the '80s. This sale is about old-fashioned junk and antiques. Rummagers will be thrilled to find vendors selling posters, toys, lamps, decorations, trucks, toilet seats, and other random stuff that may be old, but is new to you. Ki Nassauer, originator of the three-year-old, old-fashioned flea market states, "The Bonanza is actually like a high-end salvage operation, filled with beautiful, interesting, and sometimes weird items." Not sure what to do with your newly purchased junk? Lectures, readings, and demonstrations will be held throughout the event. Looking to buy junk for a good cause? A silent auction held throughout all three days will benefit We Can Ride, Inc., a nonprofit that provides therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving experiences for children and adults living with physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. Thu., Sept. 11, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sept. 12-13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
