The Republican National Convention is upon us, so there's no better time to consider Samuel Beckett's short play What Where, which references torture and unexplained disappearances. For Dérive 2, Flaneur Productions has invited Jim Bovino, Bedlam Theater's John Bueche, HIJACK, and the International Novelty Gamelan to investigate the play from their preferred angles. Bovino will direct the work without alteration, and the other performers will offer their own perspectives in response. Don't expect a straight-up evening of protest art, although current events will certainly be an overriding theme. Like Beckett, these artists will take different paths of interpretation, ending up, most likely, in that fascinating realm where the political meets the personal, and becomes something completely unexpected.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Aug. 21. Continues through Aug. 30, 2008
