Flowerfest Weekend

By Jessica Armbruster

Flower power indeed. This weekend the arboretum will showcase not one, but two flower shows: The 26th Annual Arboretum Flower and Garden Show and the Minneapolis Men's Garden Club's Food, Flower, and Foto Show. So can you grow a mean tomato? Or symmetrically perfect flowers? Amateur gardeners are encouraged to enter fruits, veggies, and flowers to be judged. Do you kill all that lives? No worries: Gardeners will be on hand to chat casually and share tips. Some will also be selling bulbs, herbs, and flowers. Also featured at this show: the "Treeology Summer Exhibition," featuring a 1.5-mile trail of trees and sculpture installations. The Landscape Arboretum is one of the largest of its kind in the upper Midwest, and often offers family, gardening, and nature activities on weekends for newbies and experts alike.
