Eric Williams Carroll: All Buildings Dream in Blueprints

By Jessica Armbruster

Though I have seen many an installation, I don't know that I have seen a re-installation like this. While not quite a re-installation, but conceptually in that vein, Carroll has created a "blueprint" of the ghosts of last April's "All Student Juried Art Show." The artworks once displayed in the gallery are now two-dimensional shadows on periwinkle blueprint hanging from the walls. Light also plays an important part, as Williams Carroll states: "In each photogram lie the shadows of every passing figure, piece of furniture, and source of light." Those who view this space may come to ponder how a blueprint, something we often think of as factual and mathematical, can bring us to reflect on how art and light create a transitory experience. Artist's gallery talk 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 5.
