Lumberjack Days

The days of the beard comb are upon us. Lumberjack Days, Stillwater's best-loved summer tradition, is back again to allow the nation's best lumberjacks (who are actually mostly beardless) and lumberjills (presumably all beardless) to display their log-centric talents in the Iron Jack Championship games. But don't let the name fool you; Lumberjack Days is more than flannel-wearing brutes playing with trees. The fleet of foot will stream through Stillwater during the 10-mile and 5K road races (even the youngsters can get in on this action with a special 1/2K "toddler trot"). Those into extreme sports will find comfort in Lowell Park's bike and skateboard demonstrations, and for board-game fiends there's a chess and cribbage tournament. This year the festival's famous floating stage on the St. Croix River will host musical acts Martin Zeller, Soul Asylum, Bodeans, and Boz Scaggs, among others. Finally, it won't just be human beings having a ball at this year's Lumberjack Days. In the Dock Dogs World Championships, pooches will compete in various leaping and retrieving events at Mulberry Point Stadium. Go to www.lumberjackdays.com or call 651.430.2306 for more information.
