Decorate the Well in Gratitude

Raising awareness about water conservation is a bit harder to pull off when your public drinking fountain displays an "out of order" sign. That hasn't stopped Heart of the Beast from celebrating Decorate the Well in Gratitude this Saturday (coincidentally the last day of the Aquatennial Festival). If celebration, conservation, and copious amounts of creativity are your must-have ingredients for the perfect summer event, look no further. Decorate the Well in Gratitude is the culmination of a project spanning three years, centered on the issues facing water, both locally and globally. The day's events include old-fashioned carnival games, fortune tellers, puppet shows, wishing wells, creative art-making activities, and installations. There will also be performances by HOBT performers and friends, the Anishinabe Academy Drum Circle, Danza Mexica Cuahtemoc, the Brass Messengers, and more. While many activities focus on knowledge and raising awareness, the theme of the day is fun. The crown jewel in the celebration of all things H2O is the dedication of the theater's once-defunct bubbler. Dedication for the new fountain takes place at 3 p.m. in the theater lobby.
