Barhopping: Bad Waitress

By Jessica Armbruster

It's a rare day that I find a place that serves beer and wine and has free wi-fi. Off the top of my head I can name only three around town. But of those, this may be the most charming. Bad Waitress, an Eat Street diner, manages to be kitschy, posh, and low-key all at the same time. Seating includes '50s-era tables and chairs, as well as big, bouncy, red pleather booths, complete with individual sockets for your laptops (no crawling around underneath strangers' tables for a power strip). You'll find all the classic diner items on the menu: burgers, club sandwiches, breakfast platters, and mac 'n' cheese. The beer and wine list is short but sufficient; beers include a variety of Bell's, Kalamazoo Stout, and Ace Pear Cider. Not interested in liquor? The Bad Waitress serves tea by the pot, as well as tasty malts and even a root beer float. Happy hour helps start the week off right, and is daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight, with $3 beer and $6 glasses of wine.
