Godless

It's hard to avoid organized religion these days. It's used as a bludgeon in the presidential race, a tool to undermine academic freedom, and a convenient excuse for a lot of hateful behavior. Performer, musician, and visual artist Jaime Carrera is an atheist. His second full-length show explores the evolution of his belief—and his eventual non-belief—beginning with his strict Catholic childhood and his early rebellion against the attempts to "save" his soul. Joined at the Bryant-Lake Bowl by Kimber Gramont, Jose Guerra, Ivan Idland, and Andy Sturdevant, Carrera (familiar to some as a back-up dancer with the homocore punk band Faggot) will challenge the contradictions of faith, but he'll also have a good time doing it. Blasphemy and bowling—sounds like a winning combination.
Thursdays, 7 p.m. Starts: May 15. Continues through May 29, 2008
