If you're unaware of the phenomenon of Disney's High School Musical, it started with a straight-to-cable movie, then extended its mighty tendrils into the realms of soundtracks, staggering amounts of merchandizing, a live show on ice, and various incarnations in the theater (including Children's Theatre Company's wildly successful run). It's a story about jocks and nerds, the deeper selves that lie beneath society's classifications, and the need to boogie to insanely infectious pop music. This touring production, I'm told, takes a number of cues from Peter Rothstein's version at CTC, which is a fine idea indeed. You'll almost wish you could go back to high school and do it over again. Almost.
